I dunno, I just like tiddy, and both Ponka and Shimsham, so I end up drawing them together a lot and I guess it caught on.
I think @nobby-art does it better though he’s more creative
Thank you a lot. I personally feel that my colors are kind of a crapshoot, and most of the time I just end up doing a color fill of something I eyedropped because I have no idea what I’m doing. I only have a basic understanding of shading and color theory so I try to stick to what I know.
I need to be practicing more than I do.

Honestly I’m not sure what’s going on in the world Cassie is in. If there are other anthro pokemon or what-not. I never thought of it beyond Cassie.

Not at all, actually, I liked the palette change. The colors are less harsh and a lot more pleasing to the eyes. And the outfit change is fine by me, too. I actually like the fact that she wears pants now, instead of the weird color coded skirt she had before. The loss of the bitchin’ leather jacket is unfortunate, but her new jacket is cool, too, with that orange chevron on the arm. I love that shit. Her outfit just feels overall more playful, now, while still seeming confident.
If I had to rank them, it’d be

2) Friendship Games
3) Legend of Everfree
4) Equestria Girls
Rainbow Rocks just hit that right combination of interesting stuff for me to get into it, and it’s pretty much what sold me on Sunset. In the first EQG she was annoying and directionless, wanting to send an army of teenagers into a portal when on the other side there’s three GOD HORSES and the ponies who SAVED THE WORLD SEVERAL TIMES equipped with MAGICAL MINDFUCK MCGUFFINS. Her big plan wasn’t thought out. But in Rainbow Rocks you got to see a Sunset that’s trying to make up for the bullshit she did and she was adorable as hell and when she saved the day it felt like she really DID save the day. Just shoving Twilight at the problem didn’t work.
The villains in Rainbow Rocks were all memorable and fun, and you got to see the dynamic between all of them. Plus the songs were just fucking earworms. and it took me forever to get them out of my head and now that I’m talking about them, they’re back in again. Fuck my ass.
The first Equestria Girls just sort of came out at the wrong time so a lot of people weren’t happy about it, but even if you take that away, the whole thing is filled with plot holes and general stupidity. Like I mentioned before, Sunset’s plan wasn’t thought out, but even then the way the world is set up makes little to no sense. When did Sunset go through the portal? Twilight never mentions knowing her, but she’s a pupil of Celestia’s so all I can think is that she was Celestia’s pupil BEFORE Twilight, and Twilight was a pupil from a very young age. So how old is Sunset? The comics show her going through the portal and coming out as high school age, but if that’s the case, considering Twilight’s age, she’s been in high school for a VERY LONG TIME. And since the whole moon thing happens on both ends of the portal we can assume that time runs identical on both sides. So basically the EQG universe is the Eternal High School Dimension and I can think of no worse punishment than to be stuck as a teenager forever.
I’m going to stop looking too deep into little girl horse cartoons now.
This is probably more true than I realized, and there have been some really good shows that have raised the bar. Still, I think that how MLP has progressed has made things feel a little stale because it’s fallen into a rut of like…
Well, I mean Twilight’s now a princess herself and they’re trying to have their cake and eat it too by having her try to be a princess and also still trying to have her be old dorky Twilight that we used to know. It’s not something that meshes that well together and when she tries to dork out now it sticks out as much as that huge crystal tree castle in the middle of Ponyville. Having her teach Starlight just doesn’t seem to be going all that well.
I don’t know, I’m not qualified to actually analyze things beyond me going “I don’t like thing.” I don’t dislike how MLP is going, it’s just not the same. The fact that there are more creative and entertaining cartoons out there just sort of adds to it.
Just got done watching it and I… don’t know.
The more I watch pony, the more I feel like the show is out of the hands of the staff. So much of it just seems designed by committee, now. Like, yeah I get it, that’s the show, it’s a commercial meant to sell plastic stuff to little girls, but after watching stuff like Gravity Falls and Amazing World of Gumball, going back to watch Season 6 and Legend of Everfree just kind of feels like a certain spark is missing.
The trappings are all there, but it’s just seems a bit hollow I guess.
But okay, thoughts on the movie itself, presented in a meandering train of thought:
The camp field trip thing is a staple for teen stuff, so I can totally see that. It’s fine. It’s sort of disjointed, though, like the whole thing is a bunch of gags, situations and general banter cut together to make a movie, and somewhere around the 75% mark they just go “oh right, we have to wrap this up” and then conflict happens which then gets resolved by Twilight believing in herself and everyone getting new gaudy toy designs in stores now.
What was the point of Filthy Rich? He just shows up to be a dick and after dropping the motivation for the conflict on everyone, he just leaves the movie entirely. Why didn’t Gloriosa tell anyone? I’d understand her not wanting to ruin the fun for all the kids, but Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna were right there. They’re the adults and they handle field trips and used to go to the camp themselves. Once the conflict is over, Gloriosa even mentions what’s going on and then they IMMEDIATELY figure out a solution that works. Filthy Rich isn’t even around to fight it.
Seriously the costume designs were bad and impractical.
The powers were neat and I liked the little bits with them a lot. The only thing that got on my nerves was how Sunset reacted to Twilight levitating things. Isn’t this the same Sunset that came from Equestria? Isn’t she actually a Unicorn? Shouldn’t she have at least mentioned that? You’d think she would at least go “wow, I haven’t seen levitation like that in forever.” I guess they can’t do that because then she’d be homesick and she’s not allowed to miss Equestria seeing as they cut that whole thing out from the last movie. Are we just supposed to forget that she’s a horse?
Like it’s not even a matter of homesickness, really, it just feels like nobody has any personality. Or rather any REAL personality. They all have emotions, but it feels like they’re robotic versions of emotions. Like everyone involved just phoned it in. Even the whole “romance” subplot is phoned in. Twilight meets Timber and instantly gets a crush because he’s… a guy I guess? He knew about rocks. He’s the new perfect guy, kind of like how Flash was, and now Flash is sort of reduced to a punching bag. I almost feel sorry for the guy. Okay I don’t feel all that sorry for Flash, he’s not anything at all. He’s just YESTERDAY’s perfect guy.
The villain was whatever. She just made vines and shit grow and she could float, but like I said before, they just kind of added her in so they could have conflict and gaudy costumes for the last quarter of the movie like with the others.
In the end, it just feels like nothing happened. The stinger of the crack in the mirror portal with shit flying out of it was okay I guess, but by this point, everything feels lifeless. There WERE some adorable moments. Sunset was super cute and on point and everything, but that was basically it.
I think I’ll just stick with drawing Sunset and some other random pony tidbits here and there, because I’m not sure if the show has changed or if I’m changing, but something’s not there anymore.
