I hardly ever get to play roleplaying games but I kind of have a weird desire to just get a bunch of rulebooks so I can put them on a bookshelf.
One of my old friends had a bunch when I was in high school and I had a blast looking through them all.
I guess I’d need a bookshelf for that, too.
I mean, you’re already into both Exalted and Godbound, so there’s a good start. The new MLP RPG is quite solid mechanically (also cute), and the World of Darkness (and now Chronicles of Darkness) have some great stuff for off-the-shelf reading. Apocalypse World and things on its engine are always good for it, and they’ve got a unique smaller form factor that looks good next to bigger books on a shelf.
I remember specifically that my friend had Vampire: the Masquerade and Mage: the Ascension, as well as AD&D2e. I think the WoD stuff is probably what got me into the Storyteller system. I would LOVE to get the WoD books. I’m not sure how the new ones are aside from a quick Mage game I played some years back for like two sessions before it collapsed.
Due to playing it for a few years, I actually picked up some Exalted 2e books: the core, Lunars, Abyssals, Fair Folk, and some various splats. They’re just kind of sitting around right now since I don’t really have a good place for them. I’ve heard bad things about 3e, though so… I dunno. Exalted 2e got kinda… uhh… weird at the end I guess.
DEFINITELY want Godbound and maybe Stars Without Number. Is Apocalypse World good? The MLP RPG is probably a good bet. Even though I’ll probably end up never playing it, it’d be nice to put next to my pone figures to be a complete scumbag.
All in all that sounds like a pretty awesome list up there. Thanks a bunch.
