Friend of mine forced me to actually come up with a backstory for Sniper so here’s what I got off the top of my head.

Chan Shihong (or Shihong Chan in western naming conventions) grew up an orphan in Hong Kong, stealing and doing some other illegal shit in order to stay alive. Eventually, she ran afoul of the wrong crowd in the form of stealing from a known crime syndicate and got her arm lopped off.

Fast forward some time, and Shihong luckily survives, but the encounter just strengthens her resolve. She picks up a penchant for gunplay and finds herself particularly good at sharpshooting. She uses this skill, taking assassination contracts in order to pay for a bionic arm replacement.

Her talent earns her the nickname “Sniper” Chan among certain groups, climbing the underground ladder. Now Shihong lives in a sort of Roanapur-styled criminal wonderland, taking contracts to pay the bills.

Kind of just bullshitted this all off the top of my head after searching for Chinese girl names.

“Shihong” apparently means “the world is red” or “humanity is red.” This could refer to “red” as in blood, or red as in luck, since that’s the appropriate color in Chinese. Both work, as Sniper is a killer, hence “blood”, and her lucky past of not dying after losing an arm. The luckiness could also be ironic, since she was born and lived an orphan.

I dunno.
